KWEA Daegu Chapter Completes June Monthly Meeting with Economic Lecture by Professor Shin Se-don

Co-hosts 1st Daegu Women Entrepreneurs Forum 2025 along with Sookmyung Women’s University Professor Shin’s Special Lecture

On Thursday, June 19, the Korea Women Entrepreneurs Association (KWEA) Daegu Chapter, led by Chairperson Lee Chang-eun, held its June monthly meeting at the Joyful Hall on the first floor of Inter-Burgo Hotel.

The meeting was held together with the 1st Daegu Women Entrepreneurs Forum 2025 and featured a special economic lecture by Professor Shin Se-don of Sookmyung Women’s University.

Prior to the regular meeting, an informational session was held on the “Women-Owned Business Certification System,” designed to encourage women-led economic activities by verifying whether women executives are actively involved in decision-making and management.

Certified women-owned enterprises are eligible for numerous benefits, such as startup support, priority public procurement, easing of price thresholds for sole-source contracts, and extra points in competitive bidding.

During his lecture, Professor Shin discussed global economic trends. He emphasized how U.S. corporate reshoring under the Biden and Trump administrations, coupled with intensified U.S.–China tensions, has reshaped global supply chains.

He noted that tariff policies have led major importing countries to reduce their exports, affecting Korea’s export-driven economy. Slow exports are reducing production and creating employment instability, wth semiconductor, automobile, and electronic component sectors most affected.

Professor Shin highlighted, “If the price of crude oil rises 10 percent year-on-year, it increases domestic inflation by approximately 0.3 percentage points.” He added, “To cope with future U.S.-centered industrial restructuring, maintaining price stability and adopting corporate strategies mindful of foreign exchange rates and interest rate fluctuations are imperative.”
