자선재단(Charities Aid Foundation, CAF)의 '2023 세계기부지수(World Giving Index)'에 따르면 전 세계 42억 명이 모르는 사람을 돕거나, 자원봉사를 하거나, 좋은 일을 위해 돈을 기부했다.

 

6년 연속 세계에서 가장 관대한 기부 1위 국가는 인도네시아로 나타났다. 2위는 우크라이나로 지난해 10위에서 껑충 뛰어 올해 가장 큰 폭으로 상승했다.

 

상위 10위권 국가 중 경제 대국은 인도네시아, 미국, 캐나다 등 3개국에 불과하다. 반면 세계 최빈국이자 저개발 국가 중 하나인 라이베리아는 4위를 차지했다.

 

 

영국은 자선단체에 돈을 기부한 순위에서 3위를 차지했다.  조사에 따르면 팬데믹 기간 동안 목격된 전 세계적인 기부의 증가가 광범위하게 유지되고 있음을 나타났다. 

 

CAF의 세계기부지수는 2009년부터 전 세계 수백만 명을 대상으로 실시한 가장 큰 규모의 기부 관련 설문조사다. 올해 지수에는 142개 국가의 데이터가 포함돼 있다. 지난 한 달간 낯선 사람을 도운 적이 있는지, 돈을 기부한 적이 있는지, 좋은 일을 위해 자원봉사를 한 적이 있는지 등 세 가지 질문에 대한 답변이 담겼다.

 

또한 올해 새로 공개된 데이터는 세계 각국의 관대함에 영향을 미치는 요소를 보여준다.

 

 

▲종교적 신념이 강한 사람은 기부 지수 점수가 전반적으로 더 높았지만, 유럽에서는 별 차이가 없었다.

 

▲ 자신의 삶을 긍정적으로 평가하는 사람은 자선단체에 기부할 가능성이 더 높았다. 세계에서 가장 행복한 국가 중 일부(스웨덴, 덴마크, 네덜란드, 아이슬란드)는 기부 상위 10위 안에 들었다.

 

▲유럽, 중동, 북아프리카에서는 이민자가 내국인보다 기부를 더 많이 했다.

 

CAF의 네일 에스롭(Neil Heslop) 최고경영자는 "CAF의 세계기부지수는 불안한 시기에 놓인 우리가 긍정적으로 희망을 품을 수 있도록 해준다"면서 "관대함은 인간의 본성이며 우리 모두를 하나의 글로벌 공동체로 묶는다. 경제 발전, 지리, 언어, 종교, 문화 등 다양한 스펙트럼을 아우르는 국가가 지수의 선두에 있다는 사실이 이를 잘 반영한다"고 밝혔다.

 

그는 이어 "기부는 길 건너편에 있든 지구 반대편에 있든 우리 주변 사람들과 관계를 형성하는 것"이라며 "우리는 각국 정부가 활기차고 견고한 시민사회 단체를 육성하는 데 필요한 자금과 시간을 제공할 수 있는 사람들을 격려하기 위해 더 큰 노력을 기울일 것을 촉구해야 한다. 사회·환경 문제, 분쟁 및 강제 이주 등에 대한 대응책을 마련해야 하기 때문이다"라고 덧붙였다.

Indonesia retains top place in World Giving Index with Ukraine climbing to second most generous country

 

LONDON Nov 9, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Around the world, 4.2 billion people helped someone they didn't know, volunteered time or donated money to a good cause according to the Charities Aid Foundation's World Giving Index 2023.

 

For the sixth year in a row, the world's most generous country is Indonesia. The second most generous country is Ukraine, which is also the Index's biggest riser, increasing its score after ranking tenth last year. Only three of the top 10 are among the world's largest economies (Indonesia, United States, and Canada), while one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world - Liberia - is ranked in fourth highest place.

 

The CAF World Giving Index[https://www.cafonline.org/about-us/research/caf-world-giving-index ] is one of the biggest surveys on giving ever produced, with millions of people interviewed around the world since 2009. This year's Index includes data from 142 countries where people were asked three questions: have they helped a stranger, given money or volunteered for a good cause over the past month.

 

New data available this year shows the factors that influence global generosity:

 

- People who have a strong religious belief have a higher overall giving index score, except for Europe where it makes no difference.

- People who rated their life in positive terms were more likely to have made a gift to charity, with some of the happiest countries in the world ranking in the top 10 for donating money (Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, and Iceland).

- Immigrants are more likely to give than nationals, particularly in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
